The USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear powered submarine, conducted a 2,114 mile voyage while fully submerged under the Polar Ice Cap.

It operated for over 2 years on its original charge of Uranium, traveling 62,562 miles before needing to refuel. Almost everyeone knows that the USS Nautilus was the world's first nuclear powered submarine. This in itself makes the Nautilus a major accomplishment in history, but on August 3, 1958 the Nautilus accomplished a feat that will remain unsurpassed. On the 23rd of July that year she left Honolulu and ran submerged to the narrow Bering Straits between Alaska and Soviet Siberia. She surfaced briefly for a final navigation check, then submerged to start a 2,114 mile journey under the Polar Ice Cap. At exactly 11:15 PM (EDT) she passed under the ice onto the North Atlantic.

1/300 Scale. Measures over 12 inches long. Molded in Dark black gray and clear. Updated decal sheet and new artwork. Skill level 2. This kit also comes with a STEM booklet explaining the history of early submarine development. A great learning tool for all. Painting and assembly required.
